REACHING OUT IS THE FIRST STEP
What to Expect
Making the decision to begin therapy is a huge step toward healing and growth. When you don’t know what to expect, beginning therapy can feel overwhelming and uncomfortable. Here’s what typically happens:
-
When you’re ready to begin, you’ll complete a New Client Inquiry Form, during which you’ll be able to schedule a 15-minute consultation phone call directly with Shir, at a time that works for you.
During the call, we’ll make sure that WTC’s approach is a good fit for your goals, answer any questions you may have, and move forward with scheduling your intake, if you’re ready.
-
Your first session is more formally called the Initial Intake Session.
Before meeting, you’ll complete some paperwork including signing consents and filling out a questionnaire about yourself. You’ll get a chance to learn how to use the Client Portal, and you’ll be given all the information you need to make sure you feel confident in finding the office or joining virtually, if you’re meeting over telehealth.
At the first session, you’ll have a chance to ask any questions and complete the informed consent process, share about your history, and begin to move toward goal-setting for your therapeutic work.
-
The first few sessions focus on building trust and collaboratively creating a plan to help you reach your goals.
Sessions are guided by goals, using personalized approaches that build upon your strengths and interests while supporting your unique needs.
Therapy sessions may use more evidence-based approaches like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and DBT-informed interventions. They might also incorporate creative tools such as art, play, or sandtray.
Regardless of the approach of your original therapy goals, you remain in charge of the focus of each session and the pace at which your therapy moves. Clients are encouraged to engage in dynamic feedback during sessions and will be asked to review progress and goals regularly.
-
Therapy often comes to a natural conclusion when you feel confident in the tools and strategies you’ve developed.
If life brings new challenges down the road, therapy is always a support you can return to again.
FAQs about Therapy

Therapy is an investment of time and resources for both the client and the provider. In an attempt to provide the most ethical care and balance sustainability for clients and the practice, WTC’s rates are based on the standard DMV area rates for specialized therapy for trauma, OCD, eating concerns, and affirming support.
WTC is a private pay practice that does not accept insurance. Instead, clients pay WTC directly at the time of service.
Initial 60 Minute Intake Session: $295

WTC will happily provide Superbils upon request in support of your efforts to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, if you choose.

In an effort to maintain client privacy and support creative, client-focused care, WTC has intentionally decided to remain a private pay or out of network therapy practice.
This means that WTC does not accept or work directly with any insurance companies. Instead, clients pay WTC directly at the time of service.
Superbills are happily provided upon request to support reimbursement from your insurance company should you determine you are eligible for those benefits.
On the Rates page, you can read a list of questions that may be helpful when trying to determine your out of network benefits.
WTC makes best efforts to support clients in seeking reimbursement from their insurance companies but cannot attempt to confirm or guarantee any eligibility for reimbursement.

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals.
Some people benefit from a few sessions to address a specific issue, while others find ongoing therapy helpful for deeper, long-term work.
We’ll collaborate to determine what works best for you.

WTC specializes in neurodiversity-affirming care, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and gender-affirming support. WTC works with individuals ages 9 and up who are experiencing anxiety, trauma, and other stressors, especially those who are autistic, ADHDers, or part of the LGBTQ+ community.
-
Aside from specific legal exceptions, like risk of harm to yourself or others, therapy sessions stay confidential.
This is discussed in more depth during the informed consent process and reviewed during our work together.
For parents of minor children, confidentiality is upheld for WTC clients to the highest standard possible with regard to clients’ chronological age and support eneds. Please bring up any questions or concerns about parental involvement or confidentiality during your consultation call and/or as soon as they arise while working together.
